I’ve renamed this site to “The Reality Computer”. It describes what I’m building quite well.
The Reality Computer will initially take the form of a tablet, however, it will use Augmented and Virtual Reality (XR) hardware as soon as that becomes cheap and unobtrusive. Its OS will also run on any old PC.
The Surface Go 2 tablet, that can become a Reality Computer
What it is
The Reality Computer is a window into a single, global, social 3D space, called the Reality Network. This is an unlimited space for chatting, sharing, co-creating, writing, sketching, thinking and playing.
Every time you pick up the tablet, it’s in the space ready for you and you’re back where you left off.
It is focused on the creation of 2D materials, alongside 3D ones. Being a virtual world means you work with these materials in a similar way to how you would in everyday physical reality.
The primary objects in the space are “panels” which can have text and images on them. Rooms built from these panels can be composed up to cities, and rooms can contain walls covered in note panels and photo panels.
All content can be pinned, snapped and "mashed" together, with your own or that of others, however you like. Objects of any type can be dropped into collections or sequences for building galleries and writing documents.
You will also have access in this space to any of your external text and media files, your email and to parts of the web.
Your stuff remains yours even if mixed up with someone else's. You can set anything you’ve created to private at any time.
The seamless space of the Reality Network is manifested by all of our Reality Computers, hosting our own digital property locally, then linked up across the planet.
See you there
I want this computer to be simple and intuitive to use and a uniquely freeing and empowering experience.
I hope to see you all in the Reality Network soon!
I need to just get on with building it...
